Seminary President Heidi Hadsell will join 20 Christian and Muslim women who will meet September 4 through 7 in Gothenburg, Sweden, as part of a dialogue process labeled "Moving towards peace through religion". Hosted by the Diocese of Gothenburg of the Church of Sweden, the meeting follows one held last year in Teheran.
The initiative is co-organized by the Iranian Institute for Interreligious Dialogue (IID) and the World Council of Churches (WCC).
Bringing contributions from diverse backgrounds including the arts, media, education and theology, participants will wrestle, in critical solidarity with tradition, with issues pertinent to a just society of women and men. In order to ensure a constructive role of religion in our societies, the role of women is put up for discussion.

For Immediate Release
HARTFORD, CT (November 13, 2007) -- Hartford Seminary President Heidi Hadsell will spend four days in Tehran, Iran this month, participating in a dialogue on the role of women in “Moving Peace Through Religion.”
The World Council of Churches and the Institute for Interreligious Dialogue in Tehran are sponsoring the conference, which will engage Christian and Muslim women in dialogue. The conference runs from November 25 through November 28.
The World Council said that one aim of the dialogue, which will be a three-year process, is to publish material on a just society of women and men, and on the treatment of women in the world of religion. The participants' diverse backgrounds as teachers, clergy, artists, academics or NGO-activists will ensure a hands-on approach to these issues.
The process is being organized by the World Council program on inter-religious dialogue and cooperation. The Institute for Interreligious Dialogue will host web-logs for each of the women to discuss approaches to the topic.
