For the Fall Semester, Hartford Seminary offers three choices for those who are interested in reading the Bible in Greek.

Teaching the three courses will be The Rev. Edward F. Duffy, adjunct professor of New Testament and minister of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairfield, CT. He received his B.A. from Princeton, an M.A. in musicology from Columbia, and the Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. He completed his Ph.D. in 2000 from the Graduate Theological Foundation.

I. Introduction to New Testament Greek, Part I (LG-561) is a three-credit graduate-level course that also can be audited. The focus of this introductory course, which assumes no prior knowledge of the Greek language, is on the basic grammar and vocabulary of New Testament Greek. Students will begin reading selected passages of the New Testament.

Course schedule: Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:50 p.m., beginning September 9 (13 weeks)

II. Readings in the Greek New Testament, Part I (LG-661) is a three-credit graduate-level course that also can be audited. This intermediate level course is designed to enable students to read the New Testament in Greek, concentrating on grammar and vocabulary. Prerequisite: LG-562 Introduction to New Testament Greek, Part II or permission of the instructor.

Course schedule: Tuesdays from 2 p.m. to 4:20 p.m., beginning September 9 (13 weeks)

For more information, please call (860) 509-9512 or write us by e-mail at admissions@hartsem.edu.

III. God's Word in Greek: Reading the Gospel of Matthew is an annual continuing education workshop. The workshop will conduct monthly translation sessions of selected texts from the New Testament, this term continuing the reading of “The Gospel of Matthew.” Participants will be encouraged to fine tune their New Testament Greek reading skills as well as explore the readings in light of their faith understanding. Reading the Greek text together with other colleagues will enhance understanding of New Testament issues. Participants should have basic proficiency in New Testament Greek; at least a one-year course in basic Greek should suffice.

Workshop schedule: Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on September 9, October 14, November 11, and December 9

The workshop resumes in January on the following dates: Jan. 13, Feb. 10, March 10, April 14, May 12, and June 9.
