Movie and Commentary
In the Footsteps of Marco Polo
with commentary by Professor Yahya MichotThursday, February 28th 7:00 pm
Hartford Seminary
77 Sherman Street
Hartford, Connecticut
United StatesIn the Footsteps of Marco Polo chronicles the journey of two ordinary guys as they set out to follow Marco Polo's historic route. Equal parts travelogue, adventure story, history trek and buddy movie, the film weaves footage from the duo's often perilous voyage with Marco Polo's descriptions and experiences. The program details their highs and lows as they retrace Polo's path, trying to see what he saw and feel what he must have felt.
The producers are Denis Belliveau and Francis O'Donnell, who took a wild idea - retrace Marco Polo's entire 25,000-mile, land-and-sea route from Venice to China and back - and spent two incredible years of their lives making their dream a reality. The film will be followed by a commentary by Professor Yahya Michot.

Dr. Yahya M. Michot joined Hartford Seminary in 2008 as Professor of Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations. He is also the current editor of the journal "The Muslim World" edited by the Seminary. Previously he taught Arabic philosophy, language, history and literature in Louvain and Islamic theology and Arabic in Oxford. He has published numerous books and articles about Islamic classical thought, drugs in Muslim societies and Islam in the West. Michot has served as a consultant to various universities, international organizations and official bodies. He is internationally recognized as a specialist of both the Iranian philosopher Avicenna (d. 1037) and the Syrian theologian-mufti Ibn Taymiyya (d. 1328).
